Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Cloud and Infrastructure, The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the development, deployment, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning on AIA’s cloud hosted infrastructure.

Job Duties:

  • Help build and maintain AIAs cloud infrastructure.
  • ensure accurate monitoring and metrics are being collected.
  • Architect infrastructure to gain efficiencies and optimize performance across all AIA cloud-based platforms.
  • Continuously improve site reliability engineering practices.
  • Contribute to solutions that diminish operational issues.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • Ensure good backups and retention policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Be knowledgeable about security principles and practices and enforce them, when needed.
  • Demonstrated Experience with AWS and/or Azure stack – particularly in the areas of networking (VPCs, security groups), VMs, databases, load balancing, and logging.
  • Experience leveraging monitoring tools.
  • Excellent information management practices, such as thorough documentation, usage of wikis, and other collaboration tools
  • Ability to scope project work, estimate effort and then break down work into sub-tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred

  • A philosophical approach to automate away from manual efforts.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5-year relevant experience designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting AWS and or Azure network and VM infrastructure.

Location:

Hybrid, Washington, DC metro area. This position will periodically be required to be on-site at the AIA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
